Artist 4 Gallery

Relaxed family portraits with light, space and atmosphere.

Family portraits with space, light and a sense of place

Beach scenes, children outdoors and relaxed family groups give this selection an open, personal character. The surroundings are part of the composition: a shoreline or a meadow can suggest a shared memory while keeping the people central. The gallery also includes closer portraits with simpler arrangements.

Choosing this gallery for your commission

Consider this selection for a family oil painting, a portrait of siblings or a couple’s portrait connected to a favourite place. If you want a landscape to remain visible around the figures, mention this when discussing the size and orientation of the canvas.

Choose a painting above to view it at its original proportions. Note the example you like and include “Artist 4” in your enquiry so we can discuss the right direction for your portrait.

Commission a custom oil portrait in Canada

Our Toronto studio helps clients across Canada commission hand-painted portraits from photographs. Start with your reference images, the number of people or pets and an approximate canvas size. We will review the references, discuss the composition and provide a personalised proposal outlining the selected artist, price and estimated timing.

Starting prices are quoted in Canadian dollars and are based on one person or pet, unframed. Each artist sets their own rates; additional subjects and detailed backgrounds can change the final price.

A 30% deposit starts the commission once the proposal is agreed, with the remaining 70% due on completion. Allow approximately 4–10 weeks; your proposal will confirm the estimated schedule. Discuss a gift date before booking so timing can be checked.

Questions about this portrait gallery

Can the setting be part of our family portrait?

Yes, the examples include outdoor settings. Send a photograph of the people and the place you have in mind. We will discuss the balance between the figures and the surroundings, and whether a wider composition will work best.

What photographs should I send?

Send the clearest original files you have, preferably with natural light and visible facial detail. Avoid small screenshots or heavily filtered images where possible. Include alternative photographs if they help explain expression, colouring or an important detail.

Can I discuss changes?

Tell us your preferences before painting begins, including the background, clothing and composition. If you have feedback during the commission, share it with the studio so we can discuss suitable adjustments with the artist.

Where can I compare other subjects and styles?
